Music at the Market
About Music at the Market
The Yellowknife Farmers Market offers the opportunity to spotlight local performers throughout the market season. We provide exposure; advertising (primarily through social media); and an honorarium based on the number of performers in the ensemble, experience, and originality of music.
We prioritize hiring local musicians who play original songs and perform with instruments. We select a mix of new and experienced musicians, individual performers and bands, and different genres of music.
Performances run from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza amphitheatre. Performers are expected to be at the amphitheatre by 5pm for soundcheck. The YKFM partners with Music NWT to provide a sound technician and basic equipment (speakers, a sound board, and microphones), but musicians will be required to bring their own instruments.
The market runs rain or shine, and we provide a covered tent to perform under to protect from the elements.
Please note that while Music at the Market is dependent on arts funding and opportunities to perform will not be guaranteed until funding has been approved, we encourage applications to be submitted by April 30, 2025 so we can begin to tentatively plan our season. We will inform musicians of the confirmed schedule as soon as we can.
Applicants not selected in the initial selection round or who apply late may be added to a waitlist.
